Happy New Year everyone! The Friends of Unity are kicking off 2022 with a CAS Hop. For my friends who might not know what CAS means, it stands for clean and simple. I really feel that CAS is subjective. What I feel is CAS, someone else may not. For instance, the two cards I am sharing for this hop are CAS compared to what I usually create. But do you think these two cards are clean and simple? I really would appreciate your input. I must admit CAS is difficult for me. I admire card makers who can pull it off with their cards looking complete. I feel like something is missing when I go for CAS. Check out our cool graphic:
Here is my first card:
I love this stamp image created by Jeanie Marie Hays. I think it represents my dog, Charlee, and I perfectly. Charlee is no longer a puppy, but she makes me so happy. She always takes me on these incredible adventures when we have our walks. She is now 11 years old. She has not slowed down. She is still moving and grooving. She has so much energy. The image is from the kit, A girl and her friend. The sentiments are from Hailey's puppy. So what do you think? Is this card CAS? Is it not CAS because I used paper piecing? I don't know. LOL. Again, subjective...for me this card is CAS compared to what I usually create.
Here is my second card:
So is this card CAS? I think so. It involves simple stamping, a piece of pattern paper, some twine, and a mini wood heart. It took no time to pur this card together so it is definitely CAS. The rainbow and sentiment stamps are both from the May 2019 Kit of the Month, sweetness, miracles and wishes.
I AM GVING AWAY SOME UNITY STAMPS FOR THIS HOP. ALL YOU HAVE TO DO IS COMMENT ON ALL OUR BLOGS. I AM GIVING AWAY TWO SETS TO ONE LUCKY WINNER. THE SETS ARE LIL' GIRL PRAYIN' AND LIL' BUNNY WISHES. As always, thank you for your continued support. We appreciate each and everyone of you.
Here is the blog hop order once again:

Stay crafty my friends,

Fantastic cards, Dawn! I think you're so right... CAS is subjective. And your take on the cue is spot on! Love your first paper pieced card... beautiful!! The extra touches on your second card make it just perfect! Love them both!
ReplyDeleteThank you so much! You already know how much I struggled with this cue. Lol
DeleteYour cards are amazing and I love the patterned paper you chose for the coat> I would wear it in a second, I love large prints on clothing. The dies are beautiful and the rainbow card is so rich and warm. CAS is 100% whatever the cardmaker decides it is! I love you CAS cards!
ReplyDeleteThank you so much Rachel! You always say the nicest things!
DeleteI love the rainbow card. I was excited to realize I have that set.
ReplyDeleteThank you Alaine! I can't wait to see your card (s) using the rainbow.
DeleteLove both your cards - and I wish I had that jacket she is wearing on your first card! :)
ReplyDeleteThank you Amber! Yes, me too!
DeleteI love both cards!! I think the rainbow is my favorite! Simple and elegant at the same time! Thanks for sharing!
ReplyDeleteThank you so much Jenni!
DeleteYou're absolutely right - CAS is completely subjective. In any case, it should mean that the image jumps out from card before anything else, and both of your cards have done that. Love, love, love that paper piecing on the jacket!
ReplyDeleteThank you so much Jan!
DeleteLovely cards, and a cute little dog too!
ReplyDeleteThank you so much Glennis!
DeleteLove, love, more love! I must find your blog to see more! Paperpiecing steals my heart every time and then add a doggo... melt! My girls getting up there too, but is slowing a bit... our very bestest love right?! I struggle matching bold loud prints and WOWSERS this is gorgeous! 2nd fav is the rainbow, yet a very sweet and calming beauty. You've made a new catagory...Clean and Spectacular. Happy New Year
ReplyDeleteAww, thank you so much Carol! You always say the sweetest things. Yes, gotta love our furry friends. Charlee is my everything!
DeleteI also struggle with CAS!! I've always read that it involves little to no embellishments or layers. But I think both of your cards are CAS compared to the standards of card making today. lol Usually you see a lot of embellishments and barely any 'white' space. They are both lovely! I love that monochromatic rainbow card.
ReplyDeleteThank you so very much Becca!
DeleteBoth of your cards are beautiful, and I know that CAS designs can be a struggle for me as well. The thought of stamping directly on my card base for a one layer card makes me break out in hives!! Loving the rainbow in shades of brown so much.
ReplyDeleteThank you Karen! Yeah CAS is pretty stressful Lol
DeleteI too struggle with wanting to fill in all the white spaces but I do love the CAS style! great cards! I want to borrow the jacket in the first card. it's stunning!
ReplyDeleteThank you April! Looks like you have to get in line for the jacket. Lol
DeleteReally nice cards but
ReplyDeleteI love the first one
and your story!
Carla from Arizona

DeleteGreat cards, Dawn! Love the coat on the first card!
ReplyDeleteThank you Linda!
DeleteI think both cards are CAS. It's all perspective as we all have our own styles. Well done!
ReplyDeleteThank you so much Meg!
DeleteGreat cards. I like the paper piecing on the first one. I think you can have your own definition of CAS--whatever it is to you.
ReplyDeleteAww, thanks so much Sue!
DeleteThat paper pieced jacket is everything!!! Love!! But oh my, the rainbow card. Wow. truly love it, Dawn.
ReplyDeleteThank you so much Bobbie Sue!
DeleteI love the paper used for the pieced coat and how it matches the strip down the side! So well done!! Thanks for sharing!
